I have been given a copy ScanScore to review!
What is it you may ask?
ScanScore is music notation software which lets us scan music we may be learning or working on and have it played back. But that's not all! You can also edit the music as you see fit! Transpose, add or remove notes or dynamics.
This is great news from a pianist perspective because it allows us in one respect to hear how a piece of music goes.
Have you ever practiced a difficult passage that doesn't seem to click? ScanScore is an excellent tool to help us hear those parts.
Say the blue circled section in A Farewell by Henry Purcell is testing your patience, simply scan the music from your printer and it instantly imports into the software and you can play it back.
What if you don't have access to a printer?
Well, you can always use their phone import feature. Simply download the ScanScore app to your phone, sync it up with the software on your computer then take a snapshot which you can then import into ScanScore. Pretty cool right?
ScanScore has way more implications however for arrangers, composers, and songwriters. The software comes in three flavors, Professional, Ensemble, and Melody.
Professional is built for large musical situations like choirs, orchestras, or big bands.
Ensemble is great for something a little smaller like a SATB choirs, piano or other smaller settings.
Melody is for simple scores like lead sheets, songwriting or single orchestra parts.
They do offer a free trial for you to try out as well, so why not see how it works?
At the end of the day, ScanScore is meant for any musician looking for a solution in simplifying the creative process.
